Lib Dems Face Rap Over Rubbish
Press Release - December 10th 2002
Lib Dem-run Sutton Council is in trouble with the European Parliament over its waste disposal policy.
Following a petition by Conservative MEPs Charles Tannock and John Bowis, the Commission has been instructed by the European Parliament to take up the case with the British Government, as the Council's cost-cutting strategy of collecting rubbish on a fortnightly basis may be a risk to health.
Local MEP Charles Tannock said:
"The Lib Dems can't even be trusted with rubbish collection. How ironic that the Party that has been so keen to pass regulation after regulation in the European Parliament should be found out in this way. The Lib Dems should clean up their act, and the Borough."
