April 2013: With the UAE Foreign Minister, HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Mario David MEP, Chairman of the UAE Friendship Group along with three MEP colleagues.

April 2013: Meeting with Marshal Witold Stepien, Co-rapporteur for Montenegro on the Committee of the Regions. We discussed Montenegro's accession process to the EU and how EU pre-accession funding can best be used particularly in supporting projects at local government level.

April 2013: With The Hon. Jan Cheek and The Hon. Roger Edwards, both Members of the Legislative Assembly for the Falkland Islands on their visit to Brussels to discuss the pressure being put on the Falkland Islands Government by Argentina. They are pictured here with Geoffrey Van Orden MBE MEP, Conservative Spokesman on Defence. I am the nominated advisor for the British overseas territories.

April 2013: I am a longstanding friend of Cyprus, here meeting with HE Kornelios Korneliou, Cypriot Permanent Representative to the EU. We discussed the financial crisis in the Cyprus banking system and the forthcoming discussions on Turkey taking place in Strasbourg next week.

April 2013: Being interviewed by Sandra Gatman for a Jewish television network about the EU Arms Embargo against Syria and my view that it is now time to arm the rebels while preventing arms flowing to extremists such as the Salafists, in order to bring an end to the conflict.

April 2013: Talking to HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister for the UAE on the Foreign Minister's visit to the European Parliament. I am a founder of the EP Friends of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and attended this lunch to inaugurate the Friends of the UAE group.

April 2013: With HE David Plunkett, Canadian Ambassador to the EU and David Tilson MP, Co-Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Delegation for Relations with Canada. I participated in debates with Canadian parliamentarians on the EU Canada Strategic Partnership and the Canada-EU Trade Agreement currently being negotiated and controversial issues ranging from the campaign by the environmental lobby to exclude oil produced from the Canadian tar sands being exported to the EU, to the animal welfare issue of the EU ban on the import of Canadian seal products.

April 2013: On a visit to the European Defence Agency (EDA) with my cross-party MEP colleagues from the Defence Sub-Committee of the European Parliament. In the picture also is Claude-France Arnould, Chief Executive of the EDA. The EDA, which was set-up ten years ago, aims to enhance the coordination, synergy and joint projects through "pooling and sharing" of the resources of the EU member state armed forces. It is focused particularly at a time of defence cuts to bring cost savings in shortage areas such as air-to-air refuelling, high technology civilian and military research, and monitoring of Common Security and Defence Policy operations to find areas of increased interoperability across 26 EU member states (Denmark is not a member). The EDA is intergovernmental and cooperates closely with NATO's "smart defence" projects, and allies like the USA, in order to avoid unnecessary duplication of efforts between the two organisations.

I explained the British Conservative position with regards to the EU In/Out referendum, the need for the EU to spend less money and spoke about the resolution of the Cypriot banking crisis.
