May 2013: With representatives from the City of London's leading financial firms today to discuss European legislation affecting their businesses, such as AIFMD, MiFID and Ucits V. Financial services account for just under 10% of the UKs national output and I am proud to represent the City of London's interests within my constituency in the capital.

May 2013: Meeting with the Tunisian Ambassador to the EU, H.E. Mr Tahar Cherif. I follow the political situation in Tunisia as well as all the other Arab Spring countries very closely and we discussed the many challenges that the country still faces in resisting the pressure exerted by Salafist extremists and tracing and retrieving all the stolen assest from the former regime. I believe that the European Union must continue to give the Tunisian Government its full support and assistance in order to stabilise the MENA southern neighbourhood countries.

May 2013: With Harvey Thomas, Chairman of the Fellowship of European Broadcasters to discuss the issue of protecting children online. Harvey and I also spent some time reminiscing about the late Baroness Thatcher as Harvey was Press and Public Relations Director at Conservative Central Office throughout her years as Prime Minister and Leader of the Conservative Party.

May 2013: With Mr. Delavar Ajgeiy, Head of the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG's) Mission to the European Union. I am a friend of the KRG in northern Iraq which is a beacon of prosperity and stability in the region.

I discussed Common Security and Defence Policy missions including the Eunavfor Atalanta anti-piracy EU naval mission in the Indian Ocean and the training mission in Mali. The Minister and I also discussed the EU's support for Amisom in Somalia as well as Afghanistan following the withdrawal of NATO forces.

April 2013: Meeting with Christian Martyrs activists Zingak Deshi and Isaac Newton. I listened to the harrowing story of Mr Adamu Habila, a recent victim of jihadi violence against Christians in Nigeria. The group also discussed what more could be done to bring the Boko Haram terrorists responsible, to justice.

April 2013: Hosting a meeting of the ECR with Damas de Blanco (Ladies in White), a courageous opposition movement in Cuba consisting of the wives and other female relatives of jailed dissidents. In 2005 the Ladies in White received the European Parliament's Sakharov Prize, but they were never allowed to leave Cuba to receive it. This week, Damas de Blanco received the long-awaited award and met with a number of political groups during their visit.

April 2013: Attending a political supper for Streatham Conservatives as guest speaker with local activists including the Association Chairman. Following the speech there was a lively question and answers session devoted to Britain's role in Europe
