May 2012: Charles speaking on the panel at a conference hosted by his ECR colleague Pawel Kowal MEP on the situation of Christians in the Middle East.

May 2012: Charles receiving at his Constituency office a delegation from the Ahwazi Arab community in London - an ethnic Arab minority in Iran who are alleging widespread discrimination and persecution by the Iranian government. Currently six of their community are imprisoned in Iran charged with "enmity against God and corruption on earth" and have allegedly been tortured and may face the death penalty. Charles has been a long standing critic of the brutality of the Tehran theocratic government and has for example campaigned on the issue of Iranian women charged with adultery facing execution by stoning, persecution of Iranian homosexuals and religious freedom for Bahais.

May 2012: Charles at his London office with Sacha Cleminson, Head of International Biodiversity Policy, and Jonathan Hall, Henderson Island Project Coordinator, of the UK Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. Charles was briefed and has now offered to support the RSPB campaign to extend the EU LIFE Instrument, which finances conservation and biodiversity in EU countries, to their overseas dependent territories. Charles is both interested in animal welfare and conservation issues generally and also is the EP advisor to the British Overseas Territories Association. Five of the world's 34 global biodiversity hotspots are located in EU member states' overseas territories, but these remain largely unprotected as the EU Birds and Habitat Directives do not apply there, but neither are the territories eligible for international funds as they are not sovereign states. Absurdly LIFE funds are available to countries like Syria and Belarus but not the UK's Pictairn or Falkland islands.

May 2012: Charles with Eduard Kukan MEP, who hosted an exhibition of Post-pop art portraits of MEPs in the European Parliament. Charles's portrait can be seen just behind and to the left.

May 2012: Charles, in his capacity as Chairman of the EP-Taiwan Friendship Group, makes a speech at a reception in Brussels to celebrate the inauguration of President Ma.

May 2012: Charles has recently become a member of the EP-Chile delegation and was visited by Jorge Eladio Weke Catriquir, a member of the Chilean indigenous Mapuche community, who briefed him regarding the problems facing his community in Southern Chile, including the proposed Netlume hydroelectric dam which may disrupt access to ancestral sacred sites.

May 2012: Charles in Orpington on polling day, 3rd May, for the London Mayoral and GLA elections with London's Mayor Boris Johnson, his brother Jo Johnson MP, and James Cleverly AM accompanied by Conservative Future activists.

May 2012: Charles with Nicky Dykes, Council candidate for the Bromley Town By-election, and with local activists and Bromley Councillors in a final push for the back Boris campaign for Mayor and James Cleverly as Bromley and Bexley member for the London Assembly.
