May 2011: Charles with his London MEP colleague, Marina Yannakoudakis, visiting the Tate & Lyle cane sugar refinery in Newham.
Tate & Lyle faces problems due to the limited EU Tariff Reduced Quotas of non ACP sugar under the EU Sugar Regime aimed at protecting European sugar beet farmers. The large cranes behind load the raw cane sugar from ships moored on the Thames directly into the factory.
