September 2013: I had a meeting with Esther Kattenberg from Open Doors to discuss the situation in Syria. Open Doors has been working in Syria for several years and is currently providing aid to help Syrians through a network of Christian churches. Esther and I discussed how the civil war in Syria had affected the Christian Minority (a minority that totals nearly 10% of the population) and what more can be done to help minorities in Syria, as well as the large number of refugees in neighbouring countries.

September 2013: I met the Indonesian Ambassador to the EU, H.E. Mr Arif Havas Oegroseno. We discussed a report that is due before the Foreign Affairs Committee in Parliament regarding an agreement between Indonesia and the EU. Indonesia is a major economic power in South East Asia and the largest Muslim democracy in the world. It has made efforts to improve its human rights record and has spoken out against the activities of extremist Jihadi groups in recent times.

September 2013: I was pleased to attend a briefing given by two of Egypt's most senior Catholic Coptic Bishops, His Grace Kyrillos Kamal William Samaan and His Grace Boutros Fahim Hanna. Ms Dina Raouf, Director at the Association of Upper Egypt for Education and Development, was also in attendance. I have frequently raised the plight of the Copts of Egypt and other persecuted Christian minorities in the Middle East.

September 2013: I met Emily Norton and Sophia Pickles from Global Witness to discuss the organisation's recently published paper, "Putting Principles into Practice". The report looks at ways that the links between illegal exploitation of mineral resources and conflict can be broken, with a particular focus on the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

September 2013: With Vassilis Mavrou and Antonis Savvides of the Famagusta Association, from the London British Cypriot community, to see how I can help to persuade Turkey to return Famagusta Varosha to the Republic of Cyprus. This port and holiday destination has been abandoned and left to decay ever since the 1974 invasion and if returned and rebuilt would act as a major growth engine at a time of severe economic problems in Cyprus.

September 2013: With Mehfuz Ahmed and Abdus Hamid, chairman and vice chairman respectively of the Conservative Friends of Bangladesh, of which I was a founder member, following a meeting on the state of UK-Bangladesh relations and issues concerning the large London British Bangladeshi community.

September 2013: Out campaigning today with local activists in West Wickham, Bromley. We picked a wet day for it but the weather did not dampen our spirits!

September 2013: Speaking to Euronews TV regarding the decision by Armenia, under Russian pressure, to withdraw its application for an Association Agreement with the EU. I am a strong friend of Armenia and disappointed by the decision. However, I respect Armenia's sovereign right to determine its long-term geopolitical orientation and to ensure its security.

September 2013: With Roland Kobia, newly appointed EU Head of delegation in Burma/Myanmar, where an EU mission is being opened for the first time. This follows promises from the country's military government of a transition to parliamentary democracy. During this confirmation hearing in the foreign affairs committee, I raised the issue of the Rohingya Muslim minority, Burmese relations with India, China and ASEAN, as well as the need for investment in communications infrastructure, particularly with a view to opening up road and railway links to Bangladesh. Also featured in the picture is my Italian colleague, Dr Susy de Martini MEP, who is the ECR Shadow Rapporteur for EU-ASEAN relations

September 2013: Chairing the public hearing, "Georgia on the path to the EU problems and challenges". Pictured (left to right): Mr Victor Dolidze, Prof Ryszard Legutko, myself, Dr Przemyslaw Zurawski Vel Grajewski and Ms Ketevan Khutsishvili
