October 2013: With the Montenegrin Ambassador to the EU, Ivan Lekovic, discussing the recently published Annual Commission Report on Montenegro. I am due to visit Montenegro shortly in my role as Rapporteur for the country, a role which comes as part of Montenegro's status as an EU candidate country.

October 2013: Speaking today at George Green's School on the Isle of Dogs in East London, during a Question Time session with pupils. The school has a large focus on Citizenship and is trying to encourage all pupils to become actively involved in their community and the world. As part of their GCSEs, all pupils complete a campaign project where they select an issue that concerns them and run a campaign directed towards people in positions of power to try to bring about change or raise awareness. We discussed, among other things, the situation in Syria, the state of the education system in the UK and calls to lower the voting age to 16.

October 2013: Speaking to Ukrainian journalist, Victoria Vlasenko, on the upcoming Vilnius Summit and the prospects for a successful trade agreement between Ukraine and the EU. I have been a long supporter of greater links between the EU and Ukraine and hope that the proposed DCFTA will be agreed upon at the November summit.

October 2013: Being interviewed by EU Reporter following yesterday's votes on tobacco products. I was proud to back proposals that will see greater protection for young people against the allure of smoking. The changes will see cigarette packets having to carry greater health warnings and will restrict the use of language such as "light" to describe cigarettes, amongst other proposals. As part of the recommendations, I was one of the MEPs who successfully voted against restricting the sale of e-cigarettes, which I believe act as a greater transitionary aid for those attempting to quit smoking.

October 2013: Meeting Bojidar Loukarsky, Party Chairman of the Union of Democratic Forces in Bulgaria. We discussed the upcoming European Elections and the prospects of the Union of Democratic Forces winning seats. The possibility of those potential MEPs joining the ECR (the group that the Conservative Party sits in the EP) was also raised.

October 2013: Pictured here with Sulaiman Tejan, former High Commissioner for Sierra Leone to the UK. As part of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy programme, we discussed the situation in Sierra Leone.

October 2013: With Amanya Mushega, of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), the main opposition party in Uganda. We discussed the human rights and political situation in Uganda as part of our meeting.

October 2013: Meeting Anatol Liabedzla, Chairman of the United Civil Party of Belarus and Hana Yakurava, the party's International Secretary. Mr Liabedzka is pictured signing a copy of his book, which tells the story of the 108 days that he spent in a KGB prison.

October 2013: With Josť Ramón Garcia-HernŠndez, International Secretary of the Spanish People's Party. We discussed Britain and Spain, as well as the prospect of forging greater ties between the EU and its Member States with Latin America. The on-going border dispute between Gibraltar and Spain was also discussed.

October 2013: With David Hewlett member of the Optical Confederation and CEO of the UK Federation of Opticians and Kevin Milson, Chairman of the UK Joint Optical Committee for the EU on eye care. We discussed EU level initiatives to improve eye care. I have always supported London's world class research centres such as the Institute of Opthalmology which is finding new treatments for eye disease.
