EU should put ban on Hezbollah, says Conservative MEP
27th January 2005
Speaking in a debate in the European Parliament on the situation in the Middle East, Dr Charles Tannock MEP, Conservative Spokesman on Foreign Affairs in the European Parliament, said:
"As an observer at the Palestinian elections, I welcomed the free and democratic election of President Abbas as Head of the Palestinian Authority.
However, the role of Iran, with tacit Syrian support to arm and fund Hezbollah, hell bent on derailing Abu Mazen's peace policy by supporting local terrorists in the West Bank and Gaza, is dangerous and Iran and Syria must be warned off. The Syrian EU-Association Agreement must not be ratified until they desist from supporting terrorism and Hezbollah made a banned EU terrorist organisation on the Council list."
